Directed by French filmmaker Yves Angelo and based on the novel Tímaþjófurinn by Icelandic author Steinunn Sigurðardóttir, this bleak, psychological drama is set on a harsh, windswept island in Brittany. The story revolves around two sisters and one's teenage daughter living together in an isolated, former rectory right next to a seaside cemetery. Alda (Emmanuelle Béart) is a hyper-sexual, detached woman who collects a revolving door of casual male lovers at the house without ever engaging her emotions. Her older sister, Olga (Sandrine Bonnaire), is a reclusive, ailing widow who has sacrificed her own life to maintain the household, watching Alda's encounters with a mix of vicarious fascination and building resentment while raising her adolescent daughter, Sigga (Vahina Giocante).
