Framed across two timelines, the series follows an elderly film director, David Howard (Jesper Christensen), reuniting decades later with his former love, Marianne (Lena Endre), to confront the catastrophic fallout of their past actions. Flashbacks to 1970s Stockholm reveal how a passionate, secret extramarital affair ignited between young David (Gustav Lindh) and Marianne (Frida Gustavsson)—the wife of David's best friend, Markus (August Wittgenstein). As their obsessive sexual and emotional attachment deepens, suspicion, jealousy, and betrayal erode both households, leading to a bitter custody battle, emotional breakdown, and lifelong grief.
