Tommaso (Willem Dafoe) is a recovering addict and director living in Rome with his much younger Ukrainian wife, Nikki (Cristina Chiriac), and their young daughter. While attempting to write his next screenplay, learn Italian, and maintain his sobriety through AA meetings, Tommaso becomes increasingly consumed by insecurity and possessiveness. As he suspects Nikki is emotionally pulling away and having an affair with another man, his intense jealousy triggers surreal, paranoid hallucinations that threaten to destroy his domestic life.
