While on a romantic holiday in Kenya with her Swiss boyfriend, Stefan, a 26-year-old Swiss businesswoman named Carola becomes instantly captivated by Lemalian, a handsome Samburu/Maasai warrior. Driven by an overwhelming attraction, she cancels her flight home, breaks up with Stefan, and sends him back to Europe alone. Carola sets off into the African wilderness to locate Lemalian in his remote village, Barsaloi. Embracing a completely new lifestyle, she marries Lemalian, builds a traditional hut, copes with severe tropical diseases, and opens a small shop to support the family. However, over time, insurmountable cultural differences—such as starkly contrasting views on gender roles, independence, and Lemalian’s intense jealousy—drive a wedge into their marriage. Realizing they cannot bridge the cultural gap, Carola eventually flees back to Switzerland with their young daughter, ending the relationship.
