Set in 1924, Englishman Hamish Winslow and his older fiancée, Sarah Morris, travel deep into the jungles of Malaysia to survey an ivory trading post in hopes of earning their fortune and building a new life. Upon arriving, they discover an isolated, oppressive environment controlled by the militant matriarch Mrs. Jones. As the outpost degenerates into a claustrophobic atmosphere of greed and total psychological isolation, Sarah and Hamish are ensnared in the disturbing family dynamic of Mrs. Jones and her emotionally imbalanced, adult son, William. William develops a obsession with Sarah, pushing the enclave into a downward spiral of manipulation, corruption, and tragedy that destroys Sarah and Hamish's future together.
