Spanning three consecutive decades (1991, 2001, and 2011), "The High Sun" tells three distinct love stories between an ethnic Croat man and an ethnic Serb woman living in neighboring villages burdened by deep-seated hatred. 1. 1991 (Jelena & Ivan): On the brink of war, two young lovers plan to flee to Zagreb, but rising ethnic tensions and military blockades violently tear them apart. 2. 2001 (Nataša & Ante): A decade after the war, a grieving Serb woman hires a Croat craftsman to renovate her war-damaged home. Heavy grief and resentment slowly give way to intense, healing passion. 3. 2011 (Marija & Luka): In the modern day, Luka returns to his home village for a rave. He visits his former flame Marija, who is now raising their son alongside another man. Driven by unresolved passion and longing, Luka and Marija cross boundaries to reconnect.
