Set in a fictional socialist military state in the 1970s, Shin Mu-gwang (Yeon Woo-jin), a loyal and model soldier from a poor background, is assigned as a personal house cook for the high-ranking Division Commander (Cho Seong-ha). Mu-gwang strives for military promotion and success to support his wife and child back home. However, when the Commander departs on a lengthy official trip, the Commander's young wife, Ryu Soo-ryeon (Ji An), aggressively pursues and seduces Mu-gwang. Bound by his allegiance to the regime's slogans, Mu-gwang gets drawn into a passionate, dangerous, and politically subversive affair that tests his fidelity and survival.
