Senke nad Balkanom is a Serbian period crime drama series set in interwar Belgrade between 1928 and 1940, in which veteran inspector Andra Tanasijević and his young forensic partner Stanko Pletikosić investigate ritualistic murders, opium cartel smuggling and political conspiracies that reach all the way to Yugoslavia's highest corridors of power. The series paints a noir portrait of Belgrade's corrupt elite — where the head of the asylum keeps a much younger mistress, the public prosecutor is entangled with a prostitute, and Season 3 confirms a lesbian relationship between the historical figure Marija Oršić and her former lover Maja Davidović — as the inspectors race to solve cases whose consequences extend far beyond Serbia's borders.
