In the historic city of Porto, Portugal, two isolated expatriates—Jake (Anton Yelchin), a troubled young American, and Mati (Lucie Lucas), a French archaeology student—cross paths. Mati is currently involved in an intense, secret affair with her older, married professor, João (Paulo Calatré). Driven by mutual loneliness, Jake and Mati share a brief, passionate one-night stand. Told out of chronological sequence from three distinct perspectives (Jake's memory, Mati's memory, and the objective reality), the film explores how this single intimate night leaves an indelible emotional mark on both of their lives as they deal with longing, regret, and personal instability.
