Nine-year-old Junior (Samuel Lange Zambrano) lives with his widowed mother, Marta (Samantha Castillo), and baby brother in a crowded Caracas housing project. Harassed and recently unemployed, Marta struggles to get her security guard job back and keep the family afloat. As school picture day approaches, Junior becomes obsessed with straightening his naturally dark, curly hair to look like a pop singer. His obsession sparks intense hostility and panic in Marta, who fears his rejection of traditional masculinity and potential homosexuality threatens his survival in their harsh, homophobic society. The growing rift between them forces Junior to make a painful choice between expressing his identity and gaining his mother's acceptance.
