Directed by German indie filmmaker Monika Treut, this queer indie comedy follows Vicky, a struggling German actress living in New York City. She works a mundane job at a macrobiotic restaurant while trying to break into the avant-garde arts scene. Her life is upended when her conservative, traditional father Hans announces he is flying in from Germany to visit her. Desperate to hide her bohemian lifestyle and career struggles, Vicky panics and concocts an elaborate ruse: she convinces her gay male roommate, Ben, to pretend to be her successful husband. The comedy tracks the chaotic friction that erupts when Hans arrives and integrates into Vicky’s colorful, queer, and sexually liberated New York social circle.
