On the quiet, desolate coast of Veracruz, Mexico, 17-year-old Sebastián is sent to manage his uncle's small, rent-by-the-hour motel. With little to do during the long, idle days, Sebastián spends his time cleaning rooms and observing the discreet encounters of the motel's patrons. Among the regulars is Miranda, an attractive 35-year-old woman who frequently rents a room to meet her married lover, Mario, who constantly arrives late or cancels on her. As Miranda waits out these empty hours in the motel lobby and courtyard, she and Sebastián begin spending time together to pass the boredom.
