Directed by Vicente Aranda and based on the famous novel by Antonio Gala, this erotic Spanish drama follows Desideria, a conventional, upper-middle-class woman trapped in a passionless, unfulfilling marriage to her husband, Ramiro. During a group holiday to Istanbul with friends, her entire world is upended when she meets Yaman, their charismatic Turkish tour guide. Driven by a sudden, consuming sexual awakening, Desideria begins a frantic, highly charged affair with Yaman. Completely blinded by physical obsession, she chooses to stay behind in Turkey, abandoning her old life entirely—only to discover that her total submission drags her into a dark, degrading underworld of criminal exploitation and psychological manipulation.
