Elena (Victoria Abril), a prestigious former actress who gave up her career upon marrying wealthy businessman Federico (José Sacristán), decides to return to the stage to star in a production of Don Juan. Her return ignites jealousy and suspicion in Federico, who believes she is having affairs with her co-stars. While attempting to spy on his wife, Federico becomes obsessed with Bibí (Bibi Andersen), the mistress of his acquaintance/associate, leading to a series of overlapping sexual encounters, nocturnal deceptions, and theatrical rivalries.
