Anne (Jane Birkin), a 30-year-old woman suffering from deep psychological distress and a complete aversion to touch, leaves her husband Jean-Marie (René Féret) and returns to her childhood home in Normandy. Once there, she manipulates her mother (Natasha Parry) into leaving to care for her pregnant sister, isolating her father (Michel Piccoli). Unraveling deep-seated childhood fixations, Anne imposes an exclusive, emotionally suffocating, and incestuous fixation on her father, isolating him from the outside world and his own mistress.
