Set in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, during the 1980s hyperinflation crisis and the rapid rise of cocaine trafficking, the story follows Jonás Larriva, a thirty-something schoolteacher and aspiring photographer who feels stifled by his unfulfilling job and oppressive, wealthy in-laws. His marriage to his wife, Talía, has turned cold and sexually distant. When Talía’s rebellious younger sister, Julia, arrives and asks Jonás to teach her photography, a passionate and risk-filled affair ignites between them. Using his photo studio as a hideaway, they push social boundaries until they are discovered by Jonás’s mother-in-law, Ira. To stifle the scandal and save family pride, the family sends Julia away, leading to a cascade of events involving drug lords, financial decay, and tragedy that ultimately tears their lives apart.
