In the isolated salt flats of Las Cumaraguas, Venezuela, an elderly father, Evaristo, survives alongside his two adolescent children, María (16) and Enrique (13), harvesting salt from the sea. When Evaristo dies, he asks his children to cremate his body and scatter his ashes in the sea—transgressing local village traditions. Left entirely alone in extreme isolation, the siblings must take on adult responsibilities to survive, while their awakening sexuality and solitude drive an intense incestuous dynamic between them.
