Hammers Over the Anvil is a 1993 Australian coming-of-age drama directed by Ann Turner and starring Russell Crowe and Charlotte Rampling, set in the Australian outback in 1910, in which 14-year-old Alan Marshall — crippled by polio but fiercely passionate about horses — idolizes East Driscoll, a rugged and fearless horse trainer, and develops a schoolboy crush on Grace McAlister, an aristocratic English beauty married to a local landowner.
