Akie (Kyoko Hayami) lives in a quiet housing complex (danchi) in Osaka, trapped in a cold, lonely marriage with her husband Kazuhiko Teramori (Takeshi Itô). Kazuhiko has long abandoned their home to live openly with his mistress; Akie tolerates his chronic infidelity due to her lingering guilt over being unable to conceive a child. Desperate to escape her profound isolation, Akie dials a telephone chat line (telephone club) and arranges a meeting with Shinji Sunai (Mutsuo Yoshioka), a local scrap metal worker. What begins as a casual, one-time sexual encounter quickly spiraling into an intense, addictive extramarital affair, driving Akie deeper into a web of physical obsession and personal collapse within the housing project.
