Etty is a 2026 French-German-Dutch drama series directed by Hagai Levi, based on the real diaries of Etty Hillesum, in which 27-year-old Jewish student Etty navigates life in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam as persecution tightens around her. Etty is simultaneously involved with two men — Han Wegerif, the 62-year-old widower she lives with as his companion and lover, and Julius Spier, her charismatic 55-year-old therapist and psychologist who crosses professional boundaries and becomes her lover as well — with Etty openly maintaining both relationships at the same time. As Spier's spiritual influence triggers a profound inner transformation in her and the Nazi crackdown on Dutch Jews intensifies, Etty channels everything into her diaries and ultimately into an extraordinary act of human solidarity, before being murdered in Auschwitz in 1943.
