In 1889 Veracruz, Mexico, Eduardo Nolasco Black, a widowed dentist and pioneer in forensic odontology, is recruited by local authorities after a string of brutal, anatomically precise murders targeting women grips the port city. Still grieving a tragedy in his past and battling his own personal demons, Nolasco discovers that the perpetrator possesses advanced medical knowledge—leading him to suspect that the notorious killer Jack the Ripper may have fled London for Mexico. To catch the murderer, Nolasco teams up with Sofía, a brilliant, high-society chemist defying the social constraints of her era. As false clues, corruption, and wrongful arrests mount, Nolasco and Sofía must navigate high-society cover-ups, institutional resistance, and their growing mutual attraction to stop a killer operating on a terrifyingly intellectual level.
