Living in a quiet Thuringian village with their young daughter, Maria (Christiane Paul), a talented cook, and Jan (Devid Striesow), an auto mechanic, enjoy a happy life until Maria loses her job. She soon receives a life-changing proposal: to move to Berlin and build her own restaurant inside a high-end hotel managed by Georg Stolzenberg (Richy Müller). With Jan's encouragement, Maria accepts, launching the couple into a long-distance weekend relationship. As the physical distance creates emotional strain, both partners face workplace temptations and extra-marital affairs, ultimately forcing them to decide whether their marriage is worth saving.
