In 1851, in the isolated wilderness of the Red River Valley, a young woman named Annie (Caroline Dhavernas) arrives exhausted at a wilderness fort claiming she murdered her husband, Simon (Brendan Fehr). Imprisoned while Constable Henry Herron (Paul Johansson) investigates, the story unfolds through shifting perspectives and testimonies. It is revealed that Annie was an orphan forced into a brutal, abusive marriage with Simon, who subjected her to domestic violence and marital rape. When Simon dies in the woods, Annie takes the blame to protect Simon's younger brother, George (Corey Sevier), who actually struck the fatal blow to defend Annie from Simon's violence.
