Juan (Iñaki Aierra), a successful playwright, is haunted by childhood memories of his mother, Teresa, who died by suicide years earlier during the Spanish Civil War. Incapable of moving past his unresolved grief and incestuous childhood obsession, he writes a theatrical script recreating his family’s past. During auditions, he meets Berta (Assumpta Serna), an actress who bears an uncanny physical resemblance to his late mother. As Juan casts Berta as Teresa and blends theatrical rehearsals with his real life, the boundaries between past trauma, memory, and taboo physical desires rapidly dissolve.
