In 1940s Bahia, cooking teacher Dona Flor (Juliana Paes) is married to Vadinho (Marcelo Faria), a charismatic, reckless gambler and womanizer who drops dead during Carnival. Grief-stricken, Flor eventually remarries Dr. Teodoro Madureira (Leandro Hassum), a respectable, predictable, and mild-mannered pharmacist who provides stability but lacks Vadinho's sexual intensity. Dissatisfied with her new husband's routine bedroom life, Flor's intense longing summons the spirit of Vadinho, visible and tangible only to her. As the phantom of her late husband begins sharing her bed alongside her living spouse, Flor quietly accepts a supernatural bigamous arrangement to satisfy both her emotional and physical needs.
