Haskell Edwards (played by Richard Hatch) is a once-prominent film director whose life and career spiraled into addiction and despair following the tragic suicide of his starlet girlfriend, Cello Shea (Chloe Dykstra). Nine years later, he is offered a chance at redemption: a studio wants him to direct a biographical movie about Cello's life. To make the film, the production company provides Haskell with an advanced, highly lifelike android named "Number 8" programmed to replicate Cello's exact appearance, voice, and memories. As shooting progresses, Haskell becomes dangerously obsessed with the robot replica, blurring the lines between art, reality, and his unresolved grief.
