Cameron Colley (Jonny Lee Miller), an idealistic and drug-fuelled investigative journalist for an Edinburgh newspaper, runs a series of articles exposing corporate corruption, arms dealing, and cover-ups. Meanwhile, a ruthless vigilante begins torturing and murdering the corrupt figures Cameron writes about, using methods Cameron previously discussed with an anonymous contact. As Inspector McDunn (Brian Cox) targets Cameron as the prime suspect, Cameron attempts to solve the murders while navigating a chaotic personal life, which includes an ongoing affair with Yvonne (Keeley Hawes), the wife of his best friend Andy (Paul Higgins).
