Cold Comfort (1989) Stream online

Directed by Vic Sarin and adapted from the play by Jim Garrard, this unsettling Canadian psychological drama explores isolation, captive desperation, and deeply twisted family bonds. The narrative follows Stephen Miller (Paul Gross), a fast-talking, urban traveling salesman driving through a blinding, desolate Manitoba blizzard. After crashing his car into a ditch, he is "rescued" by Floyd Lucas (Maury Chaykin), a volatile, eccentric local tow-truck driver. Floyd drags Stephen back to his completely isolated, decaying rural home to present him as a literal human birthday gift to his 18-year-old daughter, Dolores (Margaret Langrick). Cut off from the outside world, Dolores views Stephen with child-like curiosity and emerging sexual interest, while Floyd’s intense, suffocating grip on his daughter turns the home into a terrifying, abusive trap where escape requires breaking a deeply dysfunctional family dynamic.
