Margo (Asia Argento), a talented cellist, abandons her promising musical career out of devotion to her lover, Furio (Nuno Lopes), an architect working on a demanding restoration project to turn an old hotel into a grand estate. As Furio becomes consumed by the pressures, delays, and compromises of his work, he grows distant and emotionally detached. Feeling abandoned and trapped in isolation, Margo struggles with the loss of both her passion for music and Furio's affection. Surrounded by eccentric local figures—including Carmine (Franco Nero), a cynical former activist, and Father Villedieu (Gérard Depardieu)—Margo descends into emotional despair as the breakdown of their love mirrors the arduous construction of the hotel.
