Bad Boy Bubby is a 1993 Australian cult drama directed by Rolf de Heer in which Bubby, a mentally disabled 35-year-old man, has spent his entire life locked in a squalid house by his controlling and abusive mother Florence — who convinces him the outside air is poisonous and regularly engages him in incestuous sexual acts as a form of twisted control. When Bubby's estranged father Harold returns after years away, Bubby suffocates both parents and escapes into the outside world for the first time — stumbling through modern Adelaide completely naive and deranged, unable to distinguish normal social boundaries from the only reality he has ever known, slowly discovering love, human connection and a version of life he was never meant to have.
