Set in a kibbutz during the period leading up to the Yom Kippur War, the film follows Atalia, a fiercely independent woman who lives on the fringes of her community's rigid social structure. Because she refuses to conform to the collective's expectations and has a history of relationships that the kibbutz elders deem "inappropriate," she is treated as a social pariah. The tension reaches a breaking point when she begins a passionate affair with Matti, a young man who is much younger than her and is about to be drafted into the army. The film serves as a critique of the closed-mindedness of idealistic communities and the tragedy of individuals who are crushed by collective morality.
