Set in the summer of 2018, novelist Tanja Arnheim (Sylvaine Faligant) lives in Berlin while her long-distance boyfriend Jerome Daimler (Jannis Niewöhner), a web designer, resides in his parents' bungalow near Frankfurt. The hyper-reflective, privileged millennial couple maintains a carefully cultivated, open long-distance relationship that balances physical visits with casual outside sexual liaisons, electronic communication, and absolute personal independence. Following a shift in their dynamic after Tanja's thirtieth birthday, the couple briefly separates and pursues other partners—Tanja with Janis (Nico Ehrenteit) and Jerome with his former schoolfriend Marlene (Haley Louise Jones). When Tanja later attempts to fully reconcile, she discovers that Jerome has impregnated Marlene, bringing a definitive end to their non-committal romantic dynamic.
