A Tragédia da Rua das Flores is a 2012 Brazilian TV special based on the classic Portuguese novel by Eça de Queirós, in which a beautiful and mysterious woman named Jô returns to society after a turbulent past — having abandoned her husband and child, lived as a courtesan, and married a wealthy man — and while being kept by the rich but unappealing Dâmaso, she falls deeply and passionately in love with a young man named Vítor, and the two begin a consuming love affair, only for the devastating truth to emerge afterward that Jô is in fact Vítor's biological mother — an unknowing incest that destroys her completely, driving her to suicide so that Vítor never has to learn the truth.
