Hlynur (Hilmir Snær Guðnason) is a 28-year-old slacker living off unemployment benefits while residing with his mother, Berglind (Hanna María Karlsdóttir), in downtown Reykjavík. He spends his days drinking, surfing pornography, and avoiding adulthood. His routine is disrupted when his mother's Spanish flamenco teacher friend, Lola (Victoria Abril), comes to stay with them over Christmas. After a night of heavy drinking while his mother is away, Hlynur and Lola have a passionate sexual encounter. Shortly after, Lola comes out as a lesbian and reveals that she and Hlynur's mother are in a romantic relationship—and that Lola is pregnant with Hlynur's child.
